Can total beginners attend classes?

Absolutely, we all start somewhere. That is exactly why we run a beginner class to welcome you into the practice of yoga.

I can’t sit still and can’t touch my toes. is yoga for me?

One of the great things about yoga is it brings us all to the same common denominator—we all have the same struggles and worries, and though everyone comes in a different body, each of us has a path to travel to make it a more comfortable place to live. People come to yoga with differing levels of experience, but there is room for everyone. We are ALL learning. I have been practicing for over 5 years and my downward dog is still a work in progress!

What if I can’t do a pose?

My yoga teacher Keren Cooksey says that "your life won't change just because you can bust out a handstand" this is perfect advice...It doesn't matter what stage you are in your journey towards a pose, because the journey is where you learn, where you build strength, flexibility and where you cultivate courage.  Yoga has a non-competitive nature and we invite you to make the practice your own, — honouring your body and doing what is best for you.

Do I need to bring anything?

We have yoga mats for you to use. If you enjoy your practice you might decide to get your own mat - It’s more hygienic, and more importantly, having your own mat will make it much more likely you will unroll it at home!

What should I wear?

Wear stuff that is comfortable and that you can move in. At the moment its cold so where layers so that you can be warm. Always bring socks and a jumper for our end of class rest in Savasana.

Do I need to book classes in advance?

Our class sizes are set to 12 at the moment to enable social distancing. You don't need to book, however the classes are on a first come first served basis, so if you are super keen, definitely book. I will ask you complete a medical form on arrival to your first class so arrive early. I don't run courses, the classes are continuous so if you miss a week no problem at all. The class pass (5 for £30) is valid for any class within 2 months of buying it.

Is yoga a religion?

Yoga is a philosophy, not a religion, though it does have a spiritual component. You do not need to be religious to practice. It has been practiced by individuals of widely differing beliefs and any and all people are welcome at yoga mindset. In order to practice, you only need to believe in the possibility that we can transform ourselves, that there is always more to learn, and that there is a better way to approach life than the old habits that tie us down. At the heart is the openness to see we have not yet tapped into our highest potential as human beings. Yoga seeks to put us in touch with our spiritual core—our innermost nature—that which or who we truly are.

Ok. so I am ready to take my first class, what should  expect?

Please arrive about 15 minutes before class time. Come and say hello  and we can check any medical issues or injuries that you might have that we need to be aware of. Grab a mat and choose any spot in the room. There are toilets to use at any point during the class.
